Mashed+ FAQ
So, you’ve heard the news - Mashed+ is changing! Don’t panic, not all change is bad. In fact, we think this is pretty great.
As we roll into a new seasonal approach to our cartoons and aim to give you more bang for your buck (as well as more reasons to keep supporting our independent animation here at Mashed), we are making some changes to Mashed+, but none that we believe will leave you wanting as we move into a whole new era. So, here’s what you need to know.
Why is Mashed+ changing?
First off, we wanted to let you know why we’re doing this in the first place. Mashed+ is the best way for you to support the independent animation that we create across YouTube and the wider social world, and we wanted to give you the opportunity to become more involved in the incoming season.
The service is a little patchy at the moment, as we know that many of you come to Mashed+ to see early access for incoming cartoons, and we wanted to offer you some new opportunities to get stuck into Mashed Season 1 for its entirety, subbing out polls for emojis and wallpapers for polls that actually mean something, and new looks at pre-production cartoons that you really care about. So, here are the newest features available across Mashed+ tiers:
New update videos from the Mashed team, giving you a look behind the scenes at Mashed, and telling you first what’s coming next. Expect interviews with the Mashed team, and a full spread of info that will make you the most informed Mashed fan in the Galaxy. Maybe beyond. We can’t speak for our intergalactic fans.
New polls that affect the trajectory of Mashed’s animations - want to see a short based on a Sonic’s First Life character we haven’t seen yet? Think you know who would win a match-up in One Shot? Have your say, and it could change these characters’ realities.
As you’ll have seen with recent videos, you will now get 48 hours early access rather than the standard 24. You’ll have more time to digest, and more opportunities to share your theories with fellow Mashed+ subscribers in our exclusive members-only Discord channels.
Missing scenes for the biggest videos we release. Want the full story of Sonic’s Second Life, or There’s Something About Shadow? Want to see our characters getting stuck into the most riveting adventures, like doing their laundry or doing their weekly shop at big Tesco? You’ll only see it on Mashed+.
Plus, you’ll still get the expected animatics, Discord access, YouTube-exclusive icons and more. We wanted to make sure that when you’re supporting us, you’re getting more than enough to help you feel like you’re part of the journey - because you are!
Why should I join Mashed+ in Season One?
We’re glad you asked. Season One of Mashed marks a serious change to our approach to the cartoons that we make, raising the curtain on our plans and showing you precisely what’s coming far in advance, so you can be the most excited. Our slate for the season features returning fan-favourite series, new twists on the things you love, and freshly-baked creations from our dedicated writers and animators that we think you’re going to love. And we mean it when we say this - if you want to be a part of this new era, Mashed+ is the way to do it.
Mashed+ will not only give you the early access you’ve been looking for, but you’ll get the whole story for Sonic, Shadow and co. with bonus scenes, early teasers, polls that determine their future and much, much more. Your support will help us to make the cartoons that you want to see, and the bigger that Mashed+ gets, the less we’ll have to worry about what the algorithm thinks, and we’ll get to listen even more to you. After all, we make cartoons for you, not the unmerciful YouTube gods, and with your support, we can make you everything you want to see and beyond.
If you’re a fan of Sonic’s First and Last lives, the There’s Something About series or anything else that Mashed is making, then joining Mashed+ not only helps us to create these series, but also gives us the chance to stretch our legs and make more things that we believe that you’re going to love, as well as giving you all of the perks you’re craving. The intention is to deliver exactly what you want, and some things that you won’t know you’ve wanted until they’re right in front of you.
Whichever tier you choose, your support goes a long way, and we’re incredibly grateful that you’d choose to join this wild ride with us. We’re incredibly excited to show you what we’ve been working on. Welcome to the void.
Am I going to have to pay more for my Mashed+ tier?
Here’s the best bit - largely, if you want to stay on your current tier, you won’t pay a penny more. In fact, you might even save yourself some money.
We felt that Level 4 of Mashed+ made things a little busy, so we’re rolling each of its rewards into the Associate Producer tier (previously known as Level 3), meaning that if you’re an existing Level 4 subscriber, you’ll be moved into the Associate Producers tier, lose no rewards in the process, and save yourself some money in the process. The new fourth level of Mashed+ is, of course, for the seriously dedicated - but every reward you’d expect from the current Level 4 will be nestled into the Associate Producer role now. In short, your tier is cheaper, but also better. Don’t say we don’t do anything for you.
I’m a Level 4 subscriber - what now?
We’re axing our Level 4 subscriptions, but you will automatically be moved into our new Associate Producer tier, where you will recieve every reward you were already getting, only now it’s a lot cheaper. You’re the most welcome.
Where is Patreon going?
Once upon a time, we wanted Mashed+ to exist predominantly on Patreon, but the user-friendliness of YouTube Membership simply won out! We’re going to be moving Mashed+ over to YouTube Membership exclusively, so we’d love to see our Patreon subscribers make the move. We’ll still be publishing the next month’s rewards on Patreon for those of you who have already paid, but after that, we’ll share our rewards exclusively on YouTube.
We know that many of you simply prefer to use Patreon, but the good news is, Mashed+ can offer you more rewards over on YouTube, like membership badges and the use of exclusive emoji in our comment sections and community posts. We want to give you the very best content, updates, and Mashed experience that we can, and when we’re all on YouTube as one big happy family (aww), that’s when we can give you the experience you deserve. Don’t worry about losing access to the content you see on Patreon, either - it’ll all still be available via YouTube and Discord!
What if I join Mashed+ halfway through Season One?
Don’t worry, all of the content that we offer will be available on YouTube permanently. If you want to join halfway through the season, everything will be waiting for you in the backlog - but if you want to be around for every new early launch and chat about the videos with your fellow Mashed+ members, we recommend getting in early.
I’m a first time subscriber - what’s the best tier for me to join?
If you want the very best of Mashed+, then the Producer tier is the right place for you to be, especially with the inclusion of early access and additional scenes that complete videos’ stories. The Executive tier of the service offers a real regal treatment, but chances are, everything you’re looking for comes in for Associate Producers (which we’re willing to bet is cheaper than your favourite streaming service!)
What’s happening to emojis and wallpapers?
We’ve decided to shake up how we roll out our emojis and wallpapers going forward, in order to make our polls feel a little more substantial. Instead of asking for votes on one wallpaper set or emoji, we’re giving you much more.
For every major video release, we’ll be offering you a pack of emoji! Mashed+ subscribers can use them on YouTube, and any Mashed fan can put them to use in our Discord channel. We’ll roll out wallpapers and Discord stickers in a similar manner, too.
Can I join the Associate Producers tier, but opt out of public recognition?
Yes! Once subscribed, get in touch with us via Discord (where you’ll be able to access exclusive Mashed+ tiers) and we’ll ensure your name isn’t included in our end-of-video thanks.
Are there going to be more Mashed Seasons?
Our plans include this new seasonal rollout going forward, featuring videos that follow our overarching theme and including new and old favourite series - so don’t panic. There will be another season of Mashed, which we’ll tell you more about closer to the time.
